Analyzing Education & Life from the Perspective of a Social Studies Teacher.
Who is this guy?
My name is Michael Grether. I am a Middle School Social Studies teacher and Track & Field coach in North Carolina. I graduated from Ohio University (Go Bobcats!) in 2005 with a Bachelors Degree in 7-12 Integrated Social Studies Education, with Minors in History and Political Science. I graduated from Walden University (Go… Hedgehogs!??!) in 2008 with a Masters in Curriculum, Instruction and Assessment. I am currently piecing together a Masters degree in History from American Public University.
What are you Passionate About?
First and foremost is my faith in Jesus. Second is an overwhelming addiction to Caribou Coffee. Once caffeinated, my mind dwells on Michigan Wolverine Football, European & Russian History, and… well… Education. I am also a partner in a small web design company, Obsidian Design, LLC.
Why Blog?
Because there are not enough people who are voicing their opinions aimlessly on the internet. There seemed to be a need for one more, thus I volunteered. [/joke]
Joking aside, education is an important topic that needs to be talked about. We are experiencing a seismic shift in the educational world right now unlike anything that has been experienced in over a thousand years (with its closest competition being the implementation of the Napoleonic Code and the resulting push for all children to get an education in public school). Teachers and the general public need to be keeping a pulse to these changes, understanding their impact, and directing the flow of where these changes are taking us, locally/nationally/globally.
This blog is one microscopic effort in achieving those ends.
